A Veruca Salt Moment

Ok, so I feel very fortunate I’ve been able to cross train at all. Let me just say what a PITA it’s been the past few weeks though.

Mr. Blondie might not agree, but investing in a home gym is some of the best money we’ve ever spent. I’ve gotten very spoiled by it.

Planning around the gym’s schedule is throwing everything out of whack. The morning spin classes aren’t early enough, so then I get stuck in traffic going to work. I could learn to deal with that, but of the 3 early weekday classes they offer, 2 are on days when Mr.Blondie is usually traveling. FAIL. Can’t leave the kiddo home alone.

Someone can't wait to get into bed

If I take an evening class we get home so late. Plus I feel like the worst mommy EVER when I pick Emily up from regular daycare, just to plop her in the gym daycare for another couple hours. It turns her into one hot, cranky mess, and I don’t blame her a bit. That’s a long day for anyone. We had a good schedule going until now, and this isn't working well.

Have I mentioned I can’t wait to get back to running? I want to run NOW.

Well thanks for letting me put that out there. I feel better already.

Life really ain’t so bad :P

So how do you fit workouts into your schedule?

  1. Obviously my schedule is far more flexible now. Before I changed my hours at work and went before I picked up the kids. I totally agree, one daycare is just enough for one day! You'll find your groove mama.

  2. I'm confused...did you get a "home" gym? Well I've had to start getting my lazy butt out of bed at 5:30 a.m. because otherwise, it doesn't get done. My Emily takes up a lot of my time these days, love her :), but she doesn't get the whole let Mommy workout to the dvd while you sit there being quietly. Not going to happen.

  3. i workout in the evening, typically after everyone is in bed. i have a treadmill, free weights and a ball.
i refuse to start my day any earlier, so mornings are out.
basically, I do what i can when i can.

  4. Oh, I understand that Wendy. No rest for the weary right? Good for you for getting up early!

We invested in a good elliptical when Emily was about 3 months old. I was able to alternate between cross training on that in the morning before work, and running outside in the evening.

The following year we added the treadmill too, so I could do more running in the morning when it's still dark out. I've also been picking up dumbells, kettlebells, and different DVDs whenever I see them on sale. It's so wonderful having all that stuff at your fingerstips 24/7, I'm willing to budget tightly in other areas in order to have it.

The only thing I don't have is a bike, which is why I rejoined the gym to take spin classes. Hoping Santa will be bringing me a road bike for Christmas this year :) All I'll need is a trainer, and I'll be completely set.

  5. Ahh that is really tough! I can't imagine how I'd fit it in with work too. I do them all at 5am. But if I was working, I would feel bad not saying goodbye to the kids. On Sundays I do my long workout of bike or run with Bill staying w/ the kids. I love the picture that you posted with I WANT IT NOW DADDY girl!

  6. I'm having a hard time fitting workouts into my schedule and I don't even have kids! Hope you find a routine that works for you.

  7. Sigh. Finding time to work out that works with the gym's schedule is so hard. I can't imagine how hard it would be with a kid! I really admire you for balancing it all. Hopefully you'll find what is right for you soon. Hang in there!

  8. Yeah, so I'm wondering how all of that is supposed to work out. (And allow me to work out.) Hopefully Chris' work schedule will magically be chopped in half. I'll let you know how it goes for me sometime this winter. :-)
