Running Expo Purchase

I only bought one item. Something I've wanted for awhile.

It's not people. I'm more nervous about large dogs.

Do you ever feel concerned for your safety when you run alone? What precautions do you take?

  1. Agreed, I'm usually more worried about stupid people's dogs. If your dog isn't friendly keep them on a leash, even if you live in the sticks.

Last weekend I was a tad nervous running up at my dad's house in the northern Adirondacks. It was a little too wild for me to do a long run and get too far from the house. I know the animals are going to be more scared of me, but still.... you never know when a critter is going to be hungry.

  2. Dogs for sure! I was running last night and this little mutt of a thing just jumped on me. It was a little dog but still, people need to control their animals for sure!!

  3. Definitely. I'm an animal person and I love my friends' dogs, but I don't trust any random dogs that I see being walked on the street. A couple of years ago I got nipped by a (leashed) dog...this tiny lady was walking three big dogs and not in control of them. Not cool.

I haven't gone so far as to carry any "protection," but that is not a bad idea.

  4. I think it's a good idea for both kinds of protection (human and animal). I don't know if you know from reading my blog, but I used to be a cop, and I'm kind of a huge safety nut because of it. I actually stopped doing going to my running group in the winter because I felt it was too dark to run in a borderline sketchy neighborhood if I got separated from the group. I just didn't want to take any chances, but the mace is a great idea for piece of mind.

  5. We live it a woodsy neighborhood and people just let their dogs roam free. My 66 year old neighbor was bitten a few years ago and now brings a taser on walks! A little over the top for me.

I didn't know that littletower. That makes me feel better knowing a former cop thinks the mace is a good idea too.
