Training Status - Mid November

There’s nothing I’m specifically training for at the moment, but I want to continue improving my fitness for the 10K and half marathon distances. There’s a half marathon within driving distance at the end of January that looks interesting. We’ll see if that works out with M’s schedule, but I’m not going to any great lengths to make it happen. I also want to give the Georgia ING Half Marathon a try this spring, and will make that more of a priority (did the full Miami ING a few years ago and really liked the organization of it). I’ll continue to check active.com for local races that I can run with the jogging stroller, but those opportunities are few and far between.

I’m going at it a little harder this week, since next week is going to be a wash. My lithotripsy procedure is scheduled for Tuesday. I had the pre-op appointment on Friday, and I’m a little nervous now. I assumed lithotripsy was a no-biggie procedure, but I’ll need to be intubated and given general anesthesia. Kinda freaks me out, but the recovery is supposed to be really easy from what I’m told. Since my parents are going to be in town for Thanksgiving, I’m going to cut myself some slack and not worry about working out for the week.

I already ran 8 miles with the jogging stroller on both Saturday and Sunday in anticipation of the rain forecasted for this week. Shorter days also mean less time I can safely run outside with the jogging stroller on week nights. Do ya'll find the time change a to be a pain too?

I borrowed some P90X DVDs from a co-worker so I'm going to try one of them out Thursday...not sure which one yet. The plyometrics look intense.

Monday: 4 miles w/ stroller, 35 mins elliptical

Tuesday: 5 miles (8:00/mi pace) 25 mins elliptical, push-ups, chair dips

Wednesday: 7 mi run or 70 mins elliptical

Thursday: P90X DVD

Friday: off

Saturday: run? maybe 6-7 miles

Sunday: 8 mi run along the beach J

  1. Good luck on P90X. My husband did most of it and it is not easy. I did the kickboxing and yoga one a couple of time and really liked them. I need to get my butt outside and train more for the Half next week (Thanksgiving Day). I do not think I will have a PR here.

  2. Found you from H&F. We live in the same city! I have a few friends that just completed P90X and they loved it... at the end! Stick with it, you can do it!

  3. "I do not think I will have a PR"....what every runner says before they set a PR. It seems like that anyway, lol.

You just raced last month so it hasn't been long enough to lose any fitness. Whatever workouts you've done since then have only made you stronger. Just think of it that way. I'm sure you'll do great.

  4. Hey Erin, thanks for stopping over here. I've been a nestaholic for years.

There' so much talk about P90X over there I thought I'd dabble in it. Not sure if it'll become a regualr thing or not. I could stand to do more weight training though.

  5. what jogging stroller do you have? I am looking for one now, so that after I get the go ahead from my dr, I will be able to start back training for the danskin in May. Also, how did you like the Px90, my husband wants it, and want to know if its really that good?
    Thanks

  6. We have a BOB Revolution. I've tried a few different brands, and the BOB's definitely stand out from the rest.

There are a bunch of different models, so consider on the type of terrain you'll normally run on. The Revolution is sturdy enough for trails and gravel, and the pivoting front wheel makes it easy to maneuver. But in hindsight, the Ironman model might have been a better choice for us since I run on paved roads. It's even lighter and has a hand break for downhills. You really can't go wrong with any of the models though.
